The official web site said it had sold out but I couldn't get to the Bournemouth game and couldn't relist it anywhere and I found several others in the same position. I'd suggest it hadn't actually sold out at all.

In that case it IS sold out

sold out and full stadiums are not the same thing

Sullivan is talking absolute bollocks when he says that the empty seats dotted around the ground are cos of the capacity limit imposed by Newham.

Could it be there wasn't the demand?

The seats that are under the tarps are the 7,000 that will take the capacity up to 67,000. For Domzale and Juve the 6,000 extra seats (above 54,000) behind the goals were only sold to people whose season ticket seat it was - you could not select a seat in those areas from the website. For every season ticket holder that bought their seat in the 6,000 extra, they removed a seat for sale in another part of the ground - so that they could keep to the maximum 54,000.

They still sold 56,977 for yesterday's match - they had started selling the general sale tickets thinking that they would be allowed 60,000 - when it was limited to 57,000 they removed any of the unsold blocks that would take them about that number. They block of seats in 232 that were empty were probably ones that were going to be allocated to Newham and easiest just not to allocate them for the match.

Re: Massive blocks of empty seats.
Perhaps the seats in block 232 are the ones they plan to give as freebies. That area was nearly all Juve fans the other Sunday. Perhaps they limited the number of freebies for this Sunday to supplement the 3000 we couldn't use.

Re: Massive blocks of empty seats.
Didn't go yesterday but MOTD cameras panned around and it looked full.

Ridiculous if there was seats empty as it was "sold out" ages ago.and I didn't even try getting a ticket.
Also people have paid good money for membership so that they can be enteted into the ballot for any unsold seats.

My point before was saying that if there were an extra 3k seats more than the Juve and Domzale seats then those seats must have come from some of the previously blocked off seats at the back of the goalmouth ends and prehaps, leaving other gaps in the more expensive areas if the chraper seats ay the back were sold?

Not a big deal. Safety is paramount

There won't be a problem filling the 3,000 ~ there's 50,000 waiting at the door to sit on them!

This was all part of the club initiative to give tickets away to clubs and societies.

This week it was the turn of Agoraphobics Anonymous...

Re: Massive blocks of empty seats.
The odd empty seat is fair enough. People don't turn up to a gam for whatever reason. That ain't what we are talking about here.

Hermit Road 1:06 Mon Aug 22
Re: Massive blocks of empty seats.
I think people are missing the point about these gaps. The extra capacity seats are taken from the backs of the two ends. These were whole blocks in the middle of seated areas. They were also sold when we had the previous, lower capacity for our first two matches.

Hahahaha

Re: Massive blocks of empty seats.
FFS!!

We are restricted to 57,000. There were 3,000 that could not be sold therefore there were gaps.

When we get a safety license for 60,000 there will be no empty seats

Unbeliveable

Saw loads of empty seats and the odd block on TV.

No biggy, see that with a lot of clubs.

It was at least one entire block of seats.

I could see it from the other end of the ground.

You're aware that the TV cameras are pointed to the big bit of grass in the middle, right?
